We already know citrus fruits have very beneficial properties such as their high content of vitamin C and their essential oils.

Now we know that due to its acidity (given by the citric acid) citrus fruits can actually damage your smile. This happens because acids weaken tooth enamel, especially when eaten without other foods. The essential oil of citrus fruits such as orange and tangerine is extracted from the peel of the fruit. This extraction process is known as "cold pressing" and basically consists of "squeezing" the oils from the peel.
Of the molecules contained in citrus essential oils, limonene represents between 90 and 97% and it is precisely what gives citrus its characteristic aroma. That is why essential oils are used to flavor various products.
Similarly, the limonene contained in citrus essential oils has beneficial health properties. Thanks to it, citrus essential oils are:
Antiseptic
Antibacterial
Antifungal
And these are properties we look for in a toothpaste.
